Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon’s starrer movie ‘Umran Ch Ki Rakheya’ (What in the Age) has recently been released on the Punjabi OTT platform. A look at the star cast and the subject matter of the story makes the audience want to see the film. The film is directed by Simarjit Singh and the story is written by Raju Verma. So without further ado, let’s dive into this review!

Movie Name – Umran Ch Ki Rakheya

Starring – Raj Babbar, Poonam Dhillon, Gurjazz, Manoj Bakshi, Rana Jung Bahadar, Anita Devgan, Sukhwinder Chahal, Ravi Chauhan, Raj Jhinger, Balwinder Bullet & Akshita Sharma.

Release Date – 11th March 2022

Director – Simerjt Singh

Producers – Pushpinder Kaur & Chaupal studios

Story – The movie starts with a story, as the trailer shows, the movie is about old people. The story revolves around two persons Pyarelal (Raj Babbar) and Kelly (Poonam Dhillon). What happens now is that the two start liking each other but their family members are against their relationship due to their age.

Let me share with you all that, the story is very simple and tries to show that love has no age and even if a person gets old, he can still fall in love. In addition, the film highlights the fact that people or society should not be offended by falling in love with two older people.

Acting:

Speaking of the acting part of the project, there is no doubt that if there are names like Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon in a project then the level of acting automatically goes up! After all, both actors have films and experiences in their kitties that make them almost great.

The film also stars Anita Devgan, Sukhwinder Chahal and Gurjar. All these artists performed equally. However, the importance, or lack, of supporting actors in our industry is something that has always been a negative point. For example, everyone who plays the role of Raj Babbar’s son or Poonam Dhillon’s relative is ignored.

Direction:

Umran Ch Ki Rakheya Movie Review

The film will then be directed by Simarjit Singh. Well, he is the same man who has directed films like the ‘Nikka Zaildar’ series, ‘Subedar Joginder Singh’ and ‘Muklawa’. So when we compare his previous works with ‘Umran Chhan Ki Rakhi’, I doubt that he is the same person.

The reason for raising this question is that there are some scenes in the film which make the viewers wonder why these scenes are needed in the film. One such instance is when a police officer arrives at Kelly’s home and tells her about it, handing her the chain. At the same time, Kelly’s family gathers in the background.

The issue that comes up now is not the actual scene, but the way it is directed and the way the family reacts to the exchange. So much so that this scene prompted me to go back and check the credits for the director!

In the film where Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon are cast, he somehow doesn’t use them properly. We can also say that his experience and acting in this film have been ruined. In addition to the reactionary approach, there are exaggerated, unnecessary scenes that capture the interest of the audience.

Then there is the character of Gurjar who we feel has been forced into the film. He is neither completely in the script nor completely out of it. For those of you who are confused by this, we mean that Gujjar comes at some point, says a random conversation, and leaves.

So when it comes to directing, there were a lot of flaws that we didn’t expect from a director like Singh, and the talent of the great actors in the film was not put to good use.

Speaking of the technical aspects of the film, one of the downsides of the Polywood industry that has been repeatedly portrayed is the issue of dubbing and once again there is a problem with this film. Let me give you an example; A character is saying something according to the movement of his lips but the words we hear are completely different. We were surprised that this issue was also present in the case of Raj Babbar’s dialogue delivery!

Verdict:

There are two songs in the film that fit well. On the positive side, the chemistry between Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon in the film was very sweet and there were some lovely moments between the two that thrilled us. So overall, this is the main duo – Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon who handle the whole show.
